A Little Bit of Our Story
I have always loved stories.
Like for real, I mastered the art of walking and reading at the same time at a young age (I only hit poles sometimes). As I grew, I honed my talent for writing and spent hours crafting poems, essays and documenting my own life in my journal.
I learned to create videos while studying journalism and establishing a multimedia arm of our award winning school newspaper at BYU-Hawaii. I loved producing news shows and creating journalistic videos, but still felt that my path forward was as a writier.
Soon after graduation, I was visiting with my husband’s grandparents. They kept telling me the same stories and I loved hearing them each time. One day, I was enthralled by another of Grandpa Arthur’s tales about jumping a car through a ring of fire at a rodeo when a family member nudged me and said “you should be recording this.” I only had a very basic camera at the time but I sat down with Grandpa and recorded a Personal History interview with him.
I realized what an amazing medium video can be in crafting a story that moves people and connects them to their loved ones. I was hooked! After deciding to pursue videography full-time, I had a brief moment of concern. Was I abandoning the writer who loved stories full of meaning?
It turns out that recording wedding videos and personal documentaries is absolutely steeping in meaning. I get to be a witness to your story, take note of the moments that meant the most, and then create a work that helps you relive those feelings again and again. It’s truly an honor!
I’ve become an expert and pin pointing the moments that really mean something. Whether it’s a groom cracking everyone up during vows or a grandparent getting misty eyed while they reminisce about bygone days, it matters. I love to be a part of sharing those memories with the people who know it matters too.
The video that started it all! I created a 7 minute and 45 minute Personal History for Grandpa Adam’s and realized how powerful visual storytelling could be.
